“When you talk in a british accent in LA people automatically like you better.”

Today after senior breakfast at our high school, my friend Kelsey and I went on a little adventure in LA. We first set our sights on this place called “The Last Bookstore”, a place I’d never heard of in my life until about 2 months ago. It’s in the heart of downtown LA, a place I was a bit freaked out about going to but considering it was daylight out I said okay. Just Kidding. But as soon as we got there I realized I had to use the bathroom! Of course no shop in downtown has public restrooms…of course so I shopped for books keeping my mind off of having to pee. I found two books, one regarding city life in Washington DC. It basically describes tons of shops, restaurants, parks and hotels in the DC area including Howard University! Hollaaaa. I also found a book called Music + Travel a book that basically combines two of my favorite things. From what I’ve gathered it is a travel book that discusses the different types of music around the world. Talk about awesome. After buying our books we desperately searched for a place with a bathroom and found one in this cool cafe. This is when our British accent adventure began. The picture of me surrounded by pictures is from that cafe. One thing I love about downtown life no matter where you are is the amount of culture its inundated with whether it be music, art, fashion, or photography.

After successfully fooling two people with our accents in the cafe and learning about some great new places around LA and Hollywood to visit thanks to them since they thought we were tourists from England, we went to Out of The Closet. It’s basically a thrift store that donates its profits to helping fight HIV/AIDS and they also give free HIV testing in the store! Anyways, we ended up not going to the one we thought we were going to but it’s okay because I found an Eddie Bauer denim jacket for $8.50. So now I won’t have to borrow my dad’s anymore. I might even stud it. What also made it okay that we ended up going to the wrong Out of the Closet was that we found this sick ass vinyl shop called Origami Vinyl. It is hands down the best vinyl shop I have ever been in. They had basically everything an eclectic girl like myself could ask for. Zola Jesus, Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Of Montreal, Gorillaz, the list goes on. But since I don’t have a record player—sad day—I couldn’t buy anything. But it was nice to just discover somewhere new. When I do get a record player I’ll definitely be going back.

We headed over to Amoeba Music my musical haven whenever I go to Hollywood, and after picking up 10 cds I narrowed down my selection (against my will) to two: M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (a cd I had already listened to on Spotify and loved) and Of Monsters and Men’s “My Head Is An Animal”, an album I’d never listened to before. Whenever I buy music it’s always my goal to buy at least one album I’ve never listened to before by a band I know little or nothing about. It helps me broaden my musical interests. Which I love doing and so far (I’m listening to both CDs now…not at the same time) so good. Afterwards we headed across the street to Space 15Twenty and ate at Umami Burger a place I’d only seen but never been to. I’m going to tell you right now they have the best burgers I have ever tasted. And I even liked their ketchup! And THAT’s saying something since I hate ketchup. I definitely recommend going there. And that concluded my day pretty much I got a lot of loot today and spent the day with someone I enjoy being around. Honestly today couldn’t have gone any better if it tried to.

Well unless I’d met Tom Kaulitz but I rest my case.
Hope you enjoyed this blog post. It is rather long isn’t it? =)
